This is the first piece of non-client work that I've created in over twenty years. I'd put my personal art-making on hold in 1995, but recent illustration projects have reminded me just what I've been missing. Making a piece for the Interiors for Business (@Interiors4) Gift of Life Auction seemed like the perfect way to dip my toe back in. I started by exploring themes of readiness, growth and solstice; added in some Persephone myth and a little humidity; and then brought it full circle with a thematic text backdrop. The completed piece turned out to be even more visually autobiographical than intended, which I think is an auspicious "beginning" indeed.
The auction was held this past Thursday; I'm happy to report that my piece raised $300 for this fine charity!
